The common misconception is that a professional is a solicitor or doctor or some other occupation that requires a high level of education or training. This is not true, it is purely someone performing an occupation to a higher level or more skilled level than your avergage joe public.

Professional liability insuance is to protect the individual from claims coming from a member of the public for a variety of reasons. These are split into separate categories being public liability and professional indemnity.

Public liability insurance is for injury or damage caused by the individual to a member of the public or their property. Professional indemnity insurance is for advice given by the individual which is incorrect and causes injury, damage or loss to the public. When getting professional liability insurance it is important that you obtain the correct cover as normally the same questions are asked but the two policies cover completely different things.
